dragons and dragon slayers

The Quenchs of Ashaby are a family of dragon slayers and they have always been a burning success. But with time their success spirals down. Lily Quench is the last in that line. When a dragon is seen flying into Ashaby, she is expected to get rid of it and with rumors that the Black Count is planning to invade the country, Ashaby is a muddle of trouble. When everything is flipped over and Lily befriends the dragon they will have to work together to save Ashaby. A great book with a great plot.

Delightfully written

Lily is a quench, a dragon killer, only she doesn't know.So she is pretty surprised when a rogue troop of soldiers come and inform her, just after her grandmother's death, that a red dragon is attacking the grommet factory. This book is set in Ashby, a magical place which has been run and taken over by the Black Count's assistances: Captain Zouche and his assistant. Now, the dragon attacking the grommet factory, a large metal factory built in the palace gardens, ever since the prince and king mysteriously dissapeared during a raid in Ashby, was called Queen Dragon and Queen Dragon soon becomes Lily's best friend when she kidnaps Lily and takes her to her grotto.Captain Zouche and his assitant were hated yet respected by all in Ashby, and while Lily piteously stated this to Queen Dragon, Queen Dragon comes up with an idea, an idea that will be remembered in Ashby throughout all the future generations. From Lionel the librarian to Evangeline, the bored and rich youth the characters all are different.Especially Captain Z ouche's hideous assistant who finds out a special thing, that will destroy Ashby, forever.Read these wonderful series books that are as interesting as Artemis Fowl(if u like Artemis Fowl)

Wonderful

It's really good, but it gets into dry parts. I still loved it. If you like dragon stories, you'll like it. It's really funny. It's very adventurous. I've only read the first one, but I'm planning to read the whole series.

Fabulous New Series for Young/Middle Readers

The Quench family of Ashby have been known as the greatest dragon slayers in all the land, and have always been the bearer's of great success, until Ashby is invaded by the evil Black Count, and the Quenches family fortune quickly diminishes. That is, until a dragon unexpectedly arrives in Ashby, and the last of the Quenches, young Lily, is summoned to fight it. Lily knows nothing about quenching dragons, but she is expected to learn. And quickly! However, Lily soon learns that there is a power more evil than the dragons living in Ashby, and is soon on a magical adventure to save Ashby from the hands of crooks. I adore fiction about dragons, and Natalie Jane Prior's LILY QUENCH AND THE DRAGON OF ASHBY is no exception. Filled with hair-raising adventure at every turn, and a very likable heroine, young readers will find themselves unable to put this book down, and parents will find themselves grappling for the next book in the series to satisfy their young readers appetite. Overall, this is a fabulous first book in a wonderful new series for young/middle readers who love dragon and adventure stories. Erika Sorocco Book Review Columnist for The Community Bugle Newspaper

A great book for precocious readers!

My almost-six year old loved this book, and I can see why. It's exciting and fast-moving (like the Droon books), but with likeable characters. I suspect the action would be a little cartoony or melodramatic for older readers -- eight and up -- but for younger ones who already have fluent reading skills, or as a read-aloud, it's terrific.
