I was loaned a copy of this book and it's prequal, the Magician's Bane. They are FANTASTIC!!!! They really show (in their own special way) how important it is to have and maintain a close relationship with God.
Entertaining and uplifting children's fiction

Excellant reading for children or for parents to read-aloud. Aimed primarily at the Christian market, the book is similar in style to C.S. Lewis' Narnia series. The storyline tells of the people of Eorthe who gradually fell away from their devotion to the King (God) and the evil that slowly took over. The only way to destroy the evil is for someone to release the Lightning In The Bottle, which was a gift given to the people by the King, but which was ignored, forgotten, and finally stolen. The good magician Waymond recruits the children of Earth (called the Kingsmen) to rescue and release the Lightning. Along the way, and in the end they discover just how important (and painfully difficult) immediate and total obedience to God really is. Wonderfully entertaining for all ages, the older children (and their parents) will be seriously challenged by the implications of the message
