Good to have on hand

This is a nice reference to have on your night stand. When you're feeling blue read a chapter or two and you can be lifted for a while. It also has some great recommendations to avoind getting blue in the first place.

Easy Strategies to Feel Better

I really like the way this book is formatted. It makes it easy to read any segment and not feel overwhelmed by overly wordy text. The topics are grouped under the following topics: Stabilizing Your Brain & Biology Reducing Negative Thinking Combating Low Self-Esteem Understanding & Managing Intense Emotions Staying Connected & Avoiding Relapse Then under each topic the information is easy to access under heading like Bright Light Therapy, Dietary Solutions, Your Positive Activity Diary, The Role of Exercise, etc. When feeling down, it's hard to think how to change the situation. This book offers "simple things you can do to beat the blues."

A Gold Mine of Great Tips

This is a great little guide for anyone suffering from depression, or their family members. It offers up many practical tips backed by the latest research on brain/biology links to depression. It also discusses how to overcome negative thinking, low self-esteem, and emotional traps that contribute to depression. I took a neuropsychology course from the author, a renowned depression expert from California. Dr.Preston really knows his stuff, but also knows how to write in an easily understandable fashion. This book is written in such a way that someone suffering from depression can actually read and enjoy it, and apply the advice right away. A terrific guide book worth its weight in gold. Highly recommended.Margo McMahan, Doctoral Student
