Book Overview

The creator of Deadwood and NYPD Blue reflects on his tumultuous life, driven by a nearly insatiable creative energy and a matching penchant for self-destruction. Life's Work is a profound memoir from a brilliant mind taking stock as Alzheimer's loosens his hold on his own past.

"This is David Milch's farewell, and it will rock you."--Susan Orlean, author of The Orchid Thief

No One Writes Like David Milch

You mustn’t miss this book. If you loved Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, Deadwood, and Luck, you already know the vitality of his unique storytelling ability. He won an Emmy for his very first TV script. Yet his life was filled with more turmoil than you can imagine. To enter his mind as he finds himself struggling to hold onto his thoughts is to embrace the prism of genius that is equal parts muse and merciless self-critique. The reflections in this memoir hold nothing back. As you would expect, the writing is authentic, painful, darkly humorous, and ceaselessly revealing. To read this late life compilation of personal philosophy is to be a part of the creative process Milch so eloquently mastered. The lessons are honest, accessible, heartfelt, and without peer.
