A Collection of Fatherly Wisdom

Dad always believed that hard work could overcome almost any challenge in our lives. ~Pat Dad explained to me that you praise in public and reprimand in private, and that allows a person to keep his dignity and self-respect intact. ~Steve Each chapter starts with a saying like: "You become successful by helping others be successful" or "Know when to forgive." Steve Harper and Patrick Flaherty then tell stories about their fathers and what they were taught while growing up. An interesting read for the fatherly wisdom element. Some of the sayings include: Don't get your needs and wants mixed up! Marriage is not 50/50 Don't say what you don't want repeated Good advice all round and interesting stories. ~The Rebecca Review

A glimpse into the wisdom of the American father

This book is chock-full of the wisdom of the generation that lived through the Depression and World War II. Those were character-building events that taught all who lived through them to value the truly important things in life. Your parents or grandparents probably lived through these times. Steven Harper and Patrick Flaherty generously share with us the wisdom of their fathers--wisdom that covers the gamut of the human experience. It's amazing how pertinent this age-old wisdom is in today's society. Take a look:Family & Marriage - "If your kids are at home, you'll know where they are and what they're doing."Friendship - "Know your friends and choose them wisely."Education/Learning - "Learning is a lifetime job. Never stop trying to improve yourself."Personal Development/Self-Help - "You've got enough time if you use it right."Business/Work - "Plan your work and work your plan."Community - "Support local businesses."Spirituality - "You become successful by helping others become successful."Common Sense - "Failure is not the worst thing in the world; the very worst thing is not to have tried at all."There are many tidbits like this and each is followed by a paragraph or two expounding upon the theme and giving real-life examples. If you've ever wanted a compendium of the thoughts and lessons that your elders tried to hand down to you, if you've lost them and wish they were here now to tell you all they've learned, if you didn't listen to them when you should have and live to regret it...read this book.
