Great Thoughts for Taking Charge of Life

As a 20-something, I appreciated the authors pointing out that life is happening right now, it's not something we plan for "someday when we grow up." Whatever our goals and dreams are, we should be doing something NOW to pursue them. We only live once, so why wait? Too often we 20-somethings watch those who are older than us and follow their lead, even if their lead is to just keep their own heads above water and never pursue their true calling. I am encouraged to see a book written by people who are still in their twenties. (It's much more common to see books written by older people, even if the subject matter is what they did (or wish they'd done) when they were younger.) Some have criticized the authors for talking about themselves so much, but the subject of their book is taking charge of life at a young age, and the best way to do that is share personal experience doing just that. I appreciated every time they pointed out what they'd accomplished at such young ages. It made me think, "Hey, why NOT me?" Chapter 8 contains two gems for goal setting - exceptional approaches that can really bring clarity to deciding what you want from life. In the first, you picture yourself elderly looking back at your life, saying, "I did xx and yy..." listing all the things that would be your greatest regret if undone. In the second, you begin to write your fantasy about how you'd want your life to be, if there were no limitations, as a biographer would chronicle, only tackling one year or five or twenty, as your enthusiasm provides. The authors share their insights on how each can be valuably used. Quite frankly, I think this is a book I'll actually keep and re-read periodically (something I rarely do) and also loan out to the people I meet who are my age.

Review: Life.Now.

If you're struggling with fear, finances, self-control or any of the ten obstacles covered in this book, than this is a must-read. The Primicerio's share from their personal experiences and from Scripture to help you overcome.

Basic Life Principles

While most 20-something adults are busy having fun and taking their time to "grow" into becoming adults, hoping to one day fulfill their dreams, the authors have taken the fast track to adulthood and began living their dreams. In "Life. Now." the authors share the wisdom they've learned thus far, the wisdom that has helped their successfully reach their dreams and continue to stay on track. The book was written for the younger generation, but don't let that stop you from picking up a copy. The principles apply to 30-somethings, 40-somethings, and anyone ready to stop asking, "Is this all there is to life?"

LIFE COACHING FOR THE NEW GENERATION

"Do you ever feel stuck?" ask the authors of this new handbook aimed at 20-somethings. "Getting unstuck will only happen one way: by choosing to deliberately live your life - dreams and goals included - now." Shannon and Michael Primicerio offer readers motivation and encouragement to learn from past mistakes and dream big. Their book is packed with real-life examples, showing how faith in God helped them overcome these ten obstacles, which include the approval of others, comforts of home, a normal and average life, a sense of control, knowledge of where to start, money to make it happen, motivation to do it, vision to follow through, and a knowledge of how your dream fits into God's will for you. Each chapter ends with a discussion section containing questions for further thought, making this a useful guide for groups. There's also an application point, encouraging readers to take one small step to "Do It NOW." Even though I'm over the age of the intended audience, I found plenty of action points to apply to my own life. I'd highly recommend this book to college students or anyone needing a helpful push to get out the door ... and into living the life of their dreams. --Christian Women Online Book Buzz
