Lexicon of Solitude

An afflatus took over me and I decided to compile all my old and new journal entries into one book filled with prose and free verse poems that would help me heal and share my (very personal) anecdotes. I began to collect words that had a connection to my desolation and replaced the definitions of those words with my poetry. What started as journaling and self-therapy five years ago ended up being an arrangement of painful memories, and hard-earned lessons titled with a word I thought would epitomize the sentiment of every poem. The book was originally about one specific person but as time went on, I realized this person did not deserve a whole book to be dedicated to them. This book is about my own healing journey.

My book has evolved and matured with me. That is why there is no clear timeline and perhaps a lot of contradictions. I was in and out of love for years, stuck in a roller coaster of emotions. That is exactly how I want the reader to feel. On one page they should feel inspired and the next two pages will have them staring into space contemplating the crux of all their issues.
This book explores universal themes such as depression, hook-up culture, heartbreak, isolation, sexuality, trauma, coming of age, self-awareness, temporary nature of physical beauty, friendship, spirituality, and gratitude.
