Vietnam 1968. U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Taskopoulos, ('Tasko') accompanied by his 'Battle Buddy' Jacob Martin, ('Marty') go on a mission to locate enemy stronghold locations. After Marty is seriously injured, they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. After being denied rescue help by his company commander, Tasko takes it upon himself to trek through the dangerous jungle as he cares for Marty. Knowing he's gravely injured, Marty writes letters to his family members and gives them to Tasko to deliver them in case he does not survive his injuries. During their time together, Marty witnesses his faith to Tasko who was once a believer. Tasko discusses the subject with Marty but he does not fully come to terms with his redemption until he meets Marty's family.
