Good start up stuff

This book is great with the articles on the artists. They have brief articles written for junior high/high school age students. They read the article and if the teacher is absent, there can be a project to follow along with the reading. It is great to use for a substitute folder. Day one absent read articles and answer questions, day two start project and then days three-five work on project. So for an extended absence it's a great book.

a good art book introducing young ones to art

This a book art book that introduces young ones to art and the famous artists behind so many of the commonly seen works. I haven't used it a ton, but I do think it's a good book with some good information that would allow a teacher to have some valuable help in exploring the history of some of the world's best known artists.

This is a great product to introduce students who are younger and not exactly into art to the greatest artists. I haven't yet used it, but I will be soon just to give my students the name and basic info of the artist to get them started on researching the artist.

Let's Meet Famous Artists

This book is a good sourch of handout materials and projects for elementary students. Several artists are not in the book which is dissappointing, however, the ones included are masters in the world of art history.

a reader from Chicago

I thought this book was a very good resource for teachers. It offers a brief biography with examples of experiences and interests that influenced the particular style of each artist featured. Each section is followed by questions intended to promote higher level thinking than simple identification of facts. Art activities are suggested that result in projects that resemble the style of each artist. Projects use media that are easy to obtain and work with. Students create their own art in the style of the artist rather than making a copy of something. At the end if the book there are additional resources and vocabulary lists. I think the material can be used for a variety of age-groups. The illustrations are in black and white. I would have given it a 5 if there were more illustrations of the artists' work.
