Nice Bi-Lingual Boardbook

This boardbook gets an honorable mention (from me at least) because of it's bi-lingual nature. It has some nice drawings of mobile equipment and trucks in primary colors that will appeal to a wide range of very young children who like big vehicles. Each piece of equipment or scene covers two pages, and there is the English name on one page (Bulldozer or Concrete mixer, etc.) with the Spanish on the opposite page (La aplanadora, La mezcladora). Twice during the book the author stops and asks children to recall what they have just covered. "Now it's your turn! Can you name these machines?" I think this is a wonderful addition not only because the picture shows a worksite featuring "la maquinas", but because it asks children to exercise their memories. And even non-vocal children can benefit from such a task. Adults will also be able to use this book to talk about colors and numbers. Wrap-Up::: This is a nice boardbook whose primary focus is big vehicles. Adults will be able to use it to name colors and later to count, but the big advantage of this book is that it names trucks in both Spanish and English. Households with those languages should find this book helpful, as should adults who desire to introduce the concept of a foreign language to babies, toddlers, and even young preschoolers.
