Neither Naked nor the Truth, But Hilarious

I love the comedies that Leslie Nielsen has made over the years including the Airplane! series and The Naked Gun series. When I saw a copy of this book at a used bookstore, it attracted my interest. I thought it was an actual biography until I started reading through it.Nielsen writes a fictitious acount of his career in The Naked Truth, and the result in very funny book. The story sees him narrowly missing out on the legendary roles in Hollywood or finding some other way to escape notoriety. For example, his story of being in Lawrence of Arabia as Lawrence's lover is laugh out loud funny. His reason for not actually being in the film is because the scene ended up on the editing room floor. There are numerous movie stories like this throughout the book. Nielsen also discusses his influence on other entertainers including Elvis and James Dean. The tall tales don't stop at his love life, as Nielsen discusses all of his wives and lovers. There are plenty of puns, wise cracks, and one-liners as we have come to expect from Nielsen in this book. I completely enjoyed reading this book. Despite the fact that this book is over ten years old, it is still a treasure for fans of Nielsen.

FUNNY BEYOND ALL COMPREHENSION

I've been a big fan of humor books for years but nothing prepared me for this! I picked it up at a used bookstore in Palo Alto and couldn't put it down. (I had to buy it because I was laughing so loud they asked me to leave the store.) Written in the style of countless celebrity "I love myself because I'm soooo wonderful" self indulgence ego fests, this book had me in hysterics so many times I had tears running down my face and cramps in my side. I found myself wondering just how much of the book is true and how much came out of the truly bizarre mind of Nielsen and his co-author David Fisher. (Was he really married to Michelle Pfeiffer? Was he the bachlor in the movie, Tammy and the Bachelor?) Nielsen should stop making those silly movies and devote himself to full time writting. Or better yet, he should turn this book into a film!

This Book Will Make You Laugh Like A Hyena

Don't read this book in a public place, because your laughter will be uncontrollable and everyone will stare. It is so corny and so ridiculous it really does resemble a hollywood autobio.

By far the funniest book I've ever read

The Naked Truth is more fiction than reality; nearly all of the details are admittedly false. While it does leave the reader longing to know the actual details of Nielsen's life, the non-stop hilarity quickly takes the focus off the obvious lies. I've read this probably about 5 times, and can keep picking it up every day and read a couple of pages and still laugh at the jokes. It is not only the intense comedic style that is amusing; rather, the fact that Nielsen weaves unthinkable tales of celebrity relationships (including his work with Fellini and Hitchcock, his gay relationship in Lawrence of Arabia, and his affairs with Brigette Bardot and Sharon Stone). If you thought Nielsen projected a straight-faced comedy style on the screen, his book will make you rethink the extreme ranges of his talent. Even though I'm a devoted Nielsen fan in the movies, with a book like this, I hope he'll start writing more instead of acting
