Now in an updated fourth edition

Now in an updated fourth edition, Leisure and Aging : Ulyssean Living in Later Life is a surprisingly scholarly examination of how leisure can contribute positively to the later years of one's lifespan. Chapters discuss theoretical perspectives on aging, psychological aging, ways to enhance the leisure experience, leisure and recreation in long-term care, and much more. A thoughtful, in-depth study supported by careful research, especially recommended for health care reference libraries. "Facilities may need to be designed to compensate for limited mobility of the resident. The use of one level in facilities, if at all possible, is recommended. If that is not possible, an elevator may be needed for residents to use programs and facilities on the second floor. Thresholds into rooms should be eliminated to facilitate movement by wheelchairs. Good lighting in corridors and over any existing steps is important in reducing accidental falls. Handrails in traveled areas and in bathtubs are useful prosthetic devices. Slippery surfaces and loose rugs should be avoided."
