Book Overview

Acclaimed for its clear, friendly style, excellent illustrations, leading author team, and compelling theme of exploration, Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain, Fourth Edition takes a fresh, contemporary approach to the study of neuroscience, emphasizing the biological basis of behavior. The authors' passion for the dynamic field of neuroscience is evident on every page, engaging students and helping them master the material. In just a few years, the field of neuroscience has been transformed by exciting new technologies and an explosion of knowledge about the brain. The human genome has been sequenced, sophisticated new methods have been developed for genetic engineering, and new methods have been introduced to enable visualization and stimulation of specific types of nerve cells and connections in the brain. The Fourth Edition has been fully updated to reflect these and other rapid advances in the field, while honoring its commitment to be student-friendly with striking new illustrations, additional animations, and an unparalleled array of online resources.New edition coming Early 2025 Path of Discovery boxes by leading experts in the field (including Nobel Prize winners) showcase actual research experiences, illuminating real-life paths to scientific discovery. Illustrations and animations make complex concepts easier to understand. A neuroanatomy atlas insert (Appendix to Chapter 7) provides large images that highlight the anatomy of the brain, along with a self-quiz that gives students an opportunity to check their understanding. Of Special Interest boxes provide interesting facts and topics that connect theory with real-life neuroscience applications. Brain food boxes provide additional information on key topics. An Excellent Text

If you have been dabbling in cognitive psychology and brain science, have found it interesting and are looking for a broad yet in-depth treatment then this book will not dissapoint you. It approaches Neuroscience from every possible angle: you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the brain and how it produces, controls and mediates the sensory, motor and emotional functions that underlie human experience. The layout...

One of the best for beginners in Neuroscience

This title is the best I have come across and is most suitable for beginners in neuroscince who have no background in biology. Once you start reading the book it is almost difficult to put it away unless you finish the book.

Great Neuroscience Book

I just finished using this book for an undergraduate course in neuroscience. It was one of the best biology books I have ever obtained. I have since read the sections the course did not have the time to cover and enjoyed them all. The figures are excellent and greatly aid in your learning. The authors are even somewhat comical at some points. In all, I would highly recommend this book for the introductory neuroscientist!...

Great overview of neuroscience!

This book is a great introduction to neuroscience, and a good review of the field for those who need to brush up on basic knowledge. I majored in neuroscience at Brown University, and am now a graduate student in the field, and I still occasionally use this book as a quick reference. The figures are one of the best features of this book.

Excellent for Fundamental Knowledge of Neuroscience

This book was key for me in undergraduate neurobiology work, and even as a great supplement for graduate studies. It breaks down the neurological system in a clear, concise, and simple method, using excellent diagrams, illustrations. It actually simplifies neuroscience and I found it easier to understand than some of my more in-depth graduate books.
