HMMM - didn't know you could do this stuff?

First off, I think this book could've went through a more extensive revision process. I think there are places where information is glossed over that a careful editor would have had the author expand on.That said, I found this book very useful. It doesn't give any "Full Blown" projects to steal and modify, but there are tons of useful snippets in here. More than anything it introduces you to a different, creative way of using Word.Sometimes, however, I think he may be pushing the envelope too far. For instance, using the Windows API. I'd be very apprehensive to use the Windows API extensively in any Office/VBA project - however, the book talked about it and the code did in fact work? Your option here.Looking forward to seeing more info on VBA and Word 2002 by this guy and Steven Roman. Roman's books are good too. Very concise, but great references.

Best book on Microsoft 2000 yet!

This books was a easy read and explained the programing for Word very well. This guy knows his stuff. Well worth the money.

Highly Recommended

An eye opener. Covers some interesting things and provides good information on a topic that deserves MUCH more coverage than it is getting. I saw him speak at a Microsoft conference in Florida and decided to buy his book - well worth it.

Great Projects! - very conversational

I have struggled with several different Word projects in the past. Most books give weak examples and explain some of the more rudimentary elements of proper VBA coding. Simply put: the projects in this book rock! More than anything else, it will give you a new look at programming in Word. He shows that VBA can do just about anything that you want it to! Good luck!

very GOOD - content

I bought this book for one reason: the author wrote an article last year describing run time controls for Microsoft Office Developer, but he left me hanging for this . . . trapping the events for run time controls. He delivered. This book describes many very clever VBA concepts. It covers creating VBA pop-up menus (i didn't think that could even be done), and using VBA/Word with xml, dhtml, etc... At some times he gets a bit theory driven, but it seems to balance out well with all the projects. This book really covers using VBA for all Office applications, and using Word with them. The downfalls - no color images, not very good for total beginners (introductory material is adequate, but I wouldn't want to begin with this), and some of the explanations could be lengthier. (also, coverage of doc management is somewhat thin)Finally, there are other Word books, other VBA books, but there are no other 'document automation' books - that makes it worth it alone.(he also dissects the Melissa virus in a late chapter)
