I purchased this book a few years ago and truly enjoyed the quilts - ranging from traditional French designs, to more modern designs inspired by French settings. It includes a great pattern for women's slippers with a miniature quilt block on top - great for using leftovers. I aspire to undertake the applique flower quilt - it would be a masterpiece. Even if you never make a single pattern, it is a book to drool over and take inspiration from the wonderful marriage of pattern, fabric and needlework. Best of all, my husband has since taken me to Paris. He strictly forbid me to visit any quilt shops. Then one day we crossed the Seine river from Notre Dame to the left bank, wandered around, and there was the little LeRouvray shop itself. Looking in the window, he was immediately intrigued by the mixture of modern and antique quilts and directed me inside! If you can't get there and love French textiles, get the book. If you can get there, get the book and visit soon. (They do have day long classes, so try to time a visit with a class. Also visit the exquisite needlepoint and embroidery shop next door.) Until your book arrives, whet your appetite with the free LeRouvray pattern at http://www.lerouvray.com
Lovely book, patterns not my style
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 20 years ago
The "content" of the book was wonderful, but the patterns were not quite my thing. A couple were contemporary, most were very traditional. Also, this book comes in a French and an English version -- beware the French as all the measurements are metric. I still highly recommend, the photos are lovely and the contributions from the various French quilters are terrific. I just visited this store in Paris, Le Rouvray, and it's delightful. If you can't actually visit the store in France, this book gives a wonderful peek at French quilts and quilters.
A Great Way to "Travel"

This is a great vicarious travel book that revolves around quilting and a great little quilt store in Paris, France. It is still open and several friends have visited and enjoyed it. The book is laid out beautifully with photos of picturesque locations in the French countryside to accompany each quilt block illustrated.
