A good choice for a level one or two French reader

I taught these short stories in 8th grade French. The stories are silly and some are down right corny, but the author has a sense of humor and laughs at himself along with the reader - which makes all the difference. This was the first reading my students had done and they were very pleased with their ease of understanding and the interest level of the text. There is a good variety of every day useful words and expression and these are used over and over in the various stories. I highly recommend this book as a beginning French reader at the 8th / 9th grade level. My students wanted to keep reading and didn't want to go back to their dry textbook.
A note from the author

"Frissons" is a reader intended for all those who have completed a basic course in French. The six stories in this book have been broken down into short reading sections to facilitate understanding. Reading will help build vocabulary and a feeling for the way Francophones see the world. The stories have monsters lurking in the subway, strange insects from space, vampires, werewolves, time travel, weird characters; in short, just the kinds of things you might expect while traveling in the French-speaking world! (Note: I couldn't post this personal message without rating the book, hence the "5.")
