Laurence Olivier's main passion in life was theatre. Most of his cinema work was done just to get money for new theatrical productions. Thanks to this, Olivier reigned in the stages during the whole 20th century, as an actor and as a producer (what we call now director). In addition, he was the first director of England's National Theatre and the first actor ever to receive a life peerage. Olivier also participated in charitable galas, TV plays and radio plays.
