Editorial Review Christy Garrett and Jake McCrea had been high school sweethearts-and eventually lovers. It all ended suddenly one horrible hot night when Christy sent Jake away...without explanation. Jake had never gotten Christy out of his sytem.Time hadn't healed his wounded heart. Now he was back in Palm Springs.Determined to make slow, agonizing, passionate love to Christy just once- and then leave. For good. This was a very good read.I found the main characters to be likeable and believable.Christy had a bad reputation in high school until Jake came along and changed her life. They fell in love and planned to marry and leave town after high school. Then something happens and Christy comes to believe that she was bing a burden on Jakeand that she would eventually ruin his life.So she breaks up with and sends him away.Years later Jake has acheived success as a movie director but he can't get Christy out of his head,so he decides to return to his hometown to confront her in order to exorcise her from his mind.He discovers that he wants her back and she finally tells him why she sent him away. They spent some time working out their probems and get back together.Great book.I only wished that Christy had faith in the beginning that Jake would been able to take care of her and that he loved her enough that he wouldn't have resented her for any reason ,but I understood why she thought she had to send him away.
