Hard, seat of the pants type flying.

The premise for this "Historical novel" is that two boy-hood pals from the farm country of the Red River Valley -- who also happen to share some native American heritage -- will become WWII pilots in England's Royal Air Force. The notion is not at all farfetched. It is soundly based in fact. In the early days of the war in Europe, England was in dreadful peril. Afolph Hitler had pledged virtually his entire air force in the Battle for Britain. The call went out through the British colonies for experienced pilots -- and it was heard loud and clear across the border in the States. Requirements of youth and fearlessness made no mention of ethnicity. And Charles Lindberg had recently become every North American Boy's hero. Seat-of-the-pants flying hardly originated with jet-powered aircraft. Author Clif Santa knows something about that. He is a northland charter and bush pilot, and a member of the Confederate Air Force, the Texas-based organization devoted to preserving and flying archaic war planes. The Last Mission should be a good read for our (sadly few) surviving WWII hot pilots, and for their grandchildren. Author Santa makes this derring-do war story work while providing a nice intergenerational connection. By Anne Paine Williams reviewer for The Senior Reporter

A captivating story of real combat flying

"A captivating, superbly written book of combat flying peopled by real warriors who went up daily. The heart wrenching love story is equally intense." -- ED McGAA, EAGLE MAN, USMC, 110 missions Vietnam-F4B Phantoms. Author of Eagle Vision and Mother Earth Spirituality.

THE LAST MISSION is a red-hot flying story.

"THE LAST MISSION is a red-hot flying story, the kind you thought nobody wrote anymore. Santa puts you in the cockpit with a Heinkel in your gunsight and an ME-109 on your tail."
