Refreshing approach to writing: Last Days of Summer, by Steve Kluger

I found Mr. Kluger's approach to writing this book refreshing and well-crafted. Setting up the story to be told through letter correspondences, newspaper clippings, written interview notes, and "secretive" notes passed between neighbors and classmates, while at first glance seems odd and disjointed, actually works well while establishing each character's unique voice and perspective. The novel offered a realistic glimpse not only into the character's lives but also the era. While not personally growing up during the time period, I could hear my depression-era mother's voice in many of the colloquialisms expressed through the novels' characters. Mr. Kluger wrote a humorous novel about disturbing topics in such a way that you will laugh out loud and, at other times, struggle to stifle the tears. Well done! I keep on pushing for my husband to read this book. I think this is the one book my book-club has selected that he will definetely enjoy. In that respect it is enjoyable for males and females, from age 17 (for language) to 107.

AWESOME!

One of the best books I have ever read. Fall on the floor funny, and extremely heartwarming, this book, cleverly written as a series of letters back and forth between the characters, is something that anyone who enjoys reading can enjoy. Simply fantastic

Utterly terrific!

Oh my gosh, I love this book. Beautifully written with characters you would like to get to know. If you like baseball, smart kids, New York City, music all tossed with a dash of warm, Jewish humor, you will like - no, you'll LOVE this book. I did.

Last Days of Summer

Great "feel good" story. Letters written by a kid to a pro baseball player. funny, heartwarming light reading. my husband, daughter and I all loved it

"Last Days of Summer"

A wonderful book! Enjoyed equally by an 83 year old WWII vet, a 20 year old female college student and a variety of people in between. A great gift idea for anyone on your list!
