Hero was a sweet, loving, out spoken young woman. She did all she could to hold her family together; her young brother Tom, and a old lady Granny Beadle, who had adopted her and her brother. She had worked for Hero's grandfather, and took care of Hero's mother. Hero had to advertise for a boarder. The man who became their boarder had a secret. He also had a friend, a young man named Lyle Iden. Lyle thought Herrie was on the make to get money out of the old man who he loved. Herrie admitted to this, only she meant as a boarder. Lyle took her to mean she was a gold digger. One thing lead to another and the two antaganists fell in love. But it wasn't as simple as that for Lyle, not by a long shot.
