Catherine Moor is journeying to be presented to Queen Elizabeth I at court. Attacked in the streets of London, Catherine does what comes to her mind first; fight. In fighting back from being accosted, she earns the respect of the queen, who in turn demands loyalty and unquestioning service of Catherine. Now the eyes and ears of the bedchamber, Catherine must be on guard and alert for anything that could potentially harm her queen. Nicholas Grantly is tremendously charming and extremely virile. With his own secrets to hide, he gently tries to seduce Catherine. Instead, he finds himself falling in love with the beauty. When she becomes the victim of a sinister plot, Nicholas wants and needs to protect her at all costs. He only hopes that he can find the shadow that haunts his lovely Catherine. LADY IN WAITING is a historical tale set during the time of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Everyone is suspected of plots against the queen, but Catherine is able to almost become a friend to Elizabeth because of her bravery and loyalty. I was quite infatuated by Catherine's ability to throw off the trappings of the women of this time period and just be herself. While Nicholas withheld many secrets, most that needed to be withheld, his love and admiration for Catherine was easily seen. His need to keep her safe was heartwarming. For a wonderful look at court intrigue and foul plots with a supernatural feel, LADY IN WAITING is an intriguing read. I enjoyed it immensely.
