A top pick for prior fans.

Garth Nix's latest ' The Keys to the Kingdom' addition is LADY FRIDAY, telling of Arthur Penhaligon, whose friends have been captured by the Pipe in a world where the army controls most of the Great Maze. Pitted against the ruthless Lady Friday, Arthur finds himself in a race to win control of the House and assume his role as a rightful heir - or lose everything - in this fifth book of the series, recommended as a top pick for prior fans.

An already exciting and at times scary adventure

On the fifth day, there was fear... Leaf wakes up in a hospital ward and realizes something strange is going on. There are several people with her, but they all appear to be sound asleep, and there are no medical items. Leaf remembers that Lady Friday was a nurse at the tent hospital, but it's not until a frightened hospital cleaner tries to save Leaf from being detected that Leaf becomes aware of the danger that she --- along with her Aunt Mango and several other sleepers --- is in. Meanwhile, Arthur wakes up from a nightmare in the Citadel. The last battle has left him shaken, but he appears to have defeated the Piper for now. Unfortunately, the New Nithling army has control of the Great Maze, while Superior Saturday causes trouble by cutting off the telephone lines and controlling the elevators of the House. To make matters worse, the Dame Primus, since gaining the Fourth Part of the Will, has unwonted, barely-concealed moments of rage. Arthur isn't sure he can trust her, but he has no choice. He is trying to figure out what happened to his family in the week that has passed on Earth, as well as locate his friends who have been captured --- or worse --- by the Piper. Then, a messenger from Lady Friday arrives bearing a letter and a gift. Lady Friday has apparently abdicated her position and will turn it over to whoever can find the Fifth Part of the Will and the Fifth Key. For Arthur, this means he has to go against the Piper and Superior Saturday and possibly gain control over them. However, the week hasn't been going well for Arthur, and it gets worse when he is unexpectedly transferred to somewhere within the House, with no known way of getting back to the Great Maze or to the Secondary Realms. While Arthur tries to make his way to Lady Friday's Scriptorium, he encounters some familiar enemies and meets a few new characters, including the Paper Pushers, who have an unusual but interesting line of work. Arthur has more work cut out for him, but when Leaf discovers Lady Friday's real motive --- "experiencing" --- the day is further seeped in the fear of the unknown. LADY FRIDAY, the fifth book in Garth Nix's The Keys to the Kingdom series, adds another dimension to an already exciting and at times scary adventure that will have readers looking forward to the weekend. --- Reviewed by Sarah Sawtelle

As the week comes to a close, so do the interesting parts in the series..

It was entertaing, I'll give it that. It's cover was very eye-catching, I'll give it that. But it was lacking in Garth Nix's humor, imagination, and just plain talent for writing. Finding Part Five of the Will was no big challenge,it actually just leapt unto Arthur's shoulder and said, "Let's go; take me away!" well, not actually, but that's what it comes across to be as. and I don't really see why Leaf is even in the series; she's really only a distraction until the next chapter. And it was way to short. And Arthur's constant dreading of becoming a Denizen is rather repitive. I'm still not sure how that's going to work out, though some people sure seem to be! Well, the main thing is Arthur's searching for part four of the will, has odd run-ins, and Leaf is just in the way. Everything is to0 easy. You know, I always wanted to know what it would be like if everything was simple for the charecter; looks like I got my wish. Its not satisfying at all. Otherwise... it was worth five stars because it did keep you on the edge of your seat.

another wicked read

its been a long week for Arthur Penhaligan and unfortunatly for him, its not getting easier. only a few days after the defeat of Sir Thursday and Arthur gets a message from Lady Friday, ruler of the Middle House. it appears that she has left her domain and is seemingly handing it over, her domain, the key, and the Will. but Arthur is not alone, Superior Saturday and the Piper have received the same message and now it is a fight to the finish. meanwhile, Leaf has problems of her own. taken by Lady Friday, she must now escape from the Denizen's evil intentions and find her way back to Arthur before its to late. once again, Nix provides another enjoyable read. the characters are originall and the settings are as exotic as ever. i just hate that i'll have to wait another year for the next installment in the series. so if you love the Keys to the Kingdom series, Lady Friday will not dissapoint.

Love it!

This book is quiet different from the others of this series so far. For example, Arthur is not totally helpless for he has the Fourth Key and some useful allies at his side to protect him. I'm very impressed by this book and personally thinks it's the best of the series so far. This wonderful novel is full of suspenseful action and a brilliant ending. I am, however, furious that I have to wait at least another year for the next book and terribly sorrowful that there are probably only two more books to read from this and outstanding series. (I think there was several mistakes in the book too.)
