Panda-rific

Enter the Panda...Bruce Lee would be astonished that a fat, lazy, noodle making Dragon Warrior wanna-be could even master the supple art of Kung Fu! Po, is the son of a long line of noodle makers. His father wants him to continue the tradition of creating the best noodles for miles around. But he doesn't. He dreams of being a Dragon Warrior, and when the blind Master Oogway declares Po, the next Dragon Warrior. With the furious five and Master Shifu around him, Po absorbs the lessons of Kung Fu. His somewhat unwilling team members, Tigress, Monkey, Viper, Crane and Mantis, grow to respect Po's hidden talents. Where the lithe animals fight and train with a different motivation in mind, Po's extreme love of food serves him well. Training is good, but the rejected Dragon warrior, Tai Lung, returns to the Jade Palace for the sacred Dragon Scroll, he find Po instead. By now, Po believes in himself instead of the Dragon Scroll and fights for the Palace, and the honor of the Furious Five. Heather Scott, in The Warriors' Guide, gives readers a good look into the Dreamwork Production, Kung Fu Panda. While not just focusing on the story, she gives background information on factoids that support the film plot very substantially. As a example, on page 17, she provides the fact that Kung Fu was developed around 500 AD by Buddhist Monks at the Shaolin Monastery, and that there are many different styles based on the movements of animals. If we consider that animals constitute the Furious Five, then we understand more why the Five are whom they are. Artwise, this is a beautiful, lavishly illustrated production that will appeal to all ages. Tim Lasiuta
