A must read for any real DOOM fan.

The first of a four book series, Knee Deep in the Dead follows Flynn Taggart and Arlene Sanders as they Rip and Tear, until it is done. My love for DOOM is Eternal. I have the Icon of Sin tattooed across my shoulders.

For fans of classic Doom

If you are a fan of classic Doom and never read the novels, I suggest them highly. Nothing in them is considered cannon, however, they are fun to read. The first book attempts to flesh out a story going only by the game cover art and the few screens of text you are given in game. It does a decent job, and is the best of the 4 books.

Surprisingly awesome! Worth a read or 10!

I'm a 21 year old college student, for backround, and for anyone who says this book is just for little kids has forgotten how to enjoy a great book. This book is, in a word, FUN. I wasnt sure what to except when I first picked it up, but my god, the authors injected so much character into this book its amazing. The main character, Fly, seems completely real. It's well written, engaging and just damn fun! The writing is so good that I compare Fly's hundred pages of being alone to the way Tom Hanks successfully carries Castaway by himself for most of the film.Buy this book, its the best in the series and worth your time. I've reread it so many times I've lost count!

You will not rest until you finish this book.

I originally read this book when it was first published in 1995. I was 14 years old at the time and I still enjoy it as much as I did then, although the book definitely reads much quicker than it used to, and I can usually finish it in just a few hours. Don't get me wrong, however, this is an extremely exciting book that will keep you turning the pages until you reach the back cover. Then, you'll want to go purchase the 2nd book in the series, "Hell On Earth".The writing style in this book is relatively basic, which ends up working very well in getting combat scenes and character feelings across to the reader. You won't find yourself stumbling through the text either, as it flows relatively smoothly. Character development is very subtle, and you won't realize that you know the characters extremely well until the end of the book. This is good, because it keeps you guessing.Above all, the aspect that makes this book shine is the way the combat scenes are layed out. They're extremely exciting and make you want more. Read this book!

IF YOU LIKE DOOM THE GAME THEN YOU WILL LOVE DOOM THE BOOK!!

This has everything in it!!! It has romance, suspense, action, violence, an awesome plot...I could go on for weeks!!! This is the first in the series of DOOM novels. (there are 3 more books to read) This book lays down the basic facts about everyone's favorite Marine Corporal, "Fly" Taggart, and his lovely subordinate Pfc. Arlene Sanders. Once you begin reading this book you will not be able to put it down. You actually feel like you are in the game fighting the demons alongside the Marines. You feel the Marines pain as they lose their buddies and find them "reworked" as Zombies, you feel their tension as they are sneaking around dark corridors. This book is great!!! I cannot speak highly enough of it. The 3 novels following this book are not to be missed either. ENJOY!!!!--Pudge

Not what you'd expect

When I first saw this book lying on the shelf of the area's Waldenbooks, I laughed. I thought, "How could they make a book about one of the best action games ever made for the computer. A game that entails nothing but slaughter." I thought that the book would be funny to read so I bought it. Got home and started reading the book. Didn't stop reading it until I was done with the book. And then the only thing I could say was Wow. The book not only adds the complete story as to how Space Marines came to be fighting all these monsters, but it throws in a whole cast of new characters and a well made plot. If you are a fan of the game, get the book. If you aren't a fan of the game but like action books, get the book. If you aren't a fan of the book, and you aren't a fan of action books, get a life.
