The star of the popular ABC-TV series Grace Under Fire recounts her childhood in the South as the daughter of an absent, alcoholic father, her experience with domestic abuse, and her start as a comedienne.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was interesting to look back on old reruns of "Grace Under Fire" after reading this book and see how pieces of Brett Butler's life were incorporated into the show. It is the best book I've read in a long time. I want a sequel!
NOT MY USUAL READ...

But when I finally got around to picking it up and dusting it off -I couldn't put it down! What a delightful, witty, tragic, and down-to-earth telling of this woman's life! The tale was not at all what I expected it to be, and I've recommended this book highly to my friends (much to their suprise, considering what I usually read!). I loved the book, and I'm sure I'll read it again.
Surprisingly touching, a MUST READ

I don't think I've ever been as happy to have picked up a random book from the bookstore as I was when I ended up reading "Knee Deep in Paradise" by Brett Butler. This must be one of the most sincere books I've ever read, absolutely honest in a way that you would never expect anybody to write their autobiography, especially someone as well-known as B.B. I'm impressed.
This book is a MUST read for all Butler's fans!!! ;-)

Brett Butler's "Knee Deep in Paradise" is a book for everyone to read. She tells, not only abuot her live as a star, but of her hard life while growing up. This book opens your eyes to things that battered women all over the world hide... the fact that they feel helpless and destoryed by what is happening to them. Butler's life could not have gotten any worse when her husband pulls a gun on her and she feels the bullet pass by her ear. Then, just to assure herself that she wasn't hit, she searches the wall of the hotel for a bullet hole. This book is a must read for anyone who is a fan of "Grace Under Fire" or Brett Butler's comedy
A touching and triumphant book by a talented woman

This book will surprise you. Anyone who watches "Grace Under Fire" or Brett Butler's stand-up specials knows how brilliant an actress and comic she is. But this book shows how magnificent a writer she is. Vividly recalling her past Brett writes poetic phrases that touch you in ways more straightforward prose does not. She mentions in this book how she's always wanted to be a writer and since her talent is a given there is no doubt that she could be successful if she tries it after this.
