The Imp

(Book #1 in the The D.E.W Files Series)

The ImpLondon has long been under the influence of mob rule. It is a fact of life that the residents have to accept and deal with. Tim White is an ordinary man living an ordinary life in this city of crime however one night changes everything for him. Imbued with superhuman strength on the same night that his parents' die in a suspicious fire, he sets out on a quest to find the truth behind their deaths. Unable to achieve anything as a regular man, he must become the inhuman Imp and wade his way through the filth of his city to have any hope of getting justice. Starting out small but quickly working his way through the mob that runs the city, Tim White must deal with the fact that whilst some view his actions as heroic, others worry that the Imp may just be worse than the mob rule which he looks to destroy. The D.E.W FilesJourney into a world where enhanced individuals walk amongst regular people. Some are born with these incredible abilities whilst others seemingly stumble into them. One thing remains constant however, there will always be people willing to fall on the opposite side of the law and for every person who tries to become a hero, plenty of others turn to a darker path. With stories set across the globe, The Department of Enhanced Warfare Files cover the lives of these people, both individually and collectively, as they attempt to do what's right whilst dealing with what it means to be a hero.

What a talent Stegner was

I took a chance on this novel, having read Angle and Crossing. I have not been disappointed. This man had to be born to write, it flows and the pages turn and time is well spent. I am surprised there is not more on this book here. Stegner is a master at dialogue, fleshing out characters who become so real, creating scenes and places that become just as real. The novel could have taken a touch of editing down and it's plot...

My Second Favorite Book

After Zora Neale Hurston's,Their Eyes Were Watching God, this book is my next favorite. Wallace Stegner is a genius, a truly literary giant, equal to the likes of Tolstoy, Jane Austen, Balzac, and so on. The characters in this book are entirely real, in that they are great and not so great. But perhaps the best thing about the book is the beautiful writing. Just taking almost any sentence alone is a lesson in how to write...
