I have always admired the work of Kathy Emmel. I recently did a quilting presentation for kids at an after school program that were preparing to make their own quilts with their group leader. Not long after the director of the program showed me she had this book. Her kids were even part of Kathy's early projects! I was very happy to find the book and add it to my quilt book collection - maybe someday I will be teaching kids to quilt....(besides my own kids...)
A concept book with teaching aspects

An interesting book for teachers, this book gives some very interesting ideas for quilting with classes and how Emmel went about it. There are few actual patterns simply because the students will guide the design and make-up of the quilt through ability, numbers and interest. Emmel also provides teachers with ideas for blending the project into a number of subject areas (art, science, maths..) My biggest beef would be it is US-centric with some patterns not really mapping to an Australian society. I love the maths/symmetry quilt.
