I am the author so don't wish to rate my own book other that to say it is designed to get kids away from video games and TV for some actual rewarding "build-it" activities. A boy or girl needs to tackle problems in life, perhaps getting a nick or scrape along the way, but in the end gaining a confidence and knowledge that they can evaluate and solve those problems, having fun along the way! With interesting projects and tidbits of knowledge, this book provides some of that training. There are no paper dolls or coloring here, real toys are made by the child, some are wooden, built to last a lifetime, others like the Sextant, and Compass teach scientific principles, a couple are "magic" devices. In the end, a kid will gain a solid confidence in their abilities to build a real toy and solve problems and will develop a driving urge to learn new things as they continue on with other "Adventure Projects." Available in hardback version, a softcover is also available.
