I am the author's great granddaughter. She wrote this book when I was twelve years old and I remember our entire family being very proud of her and thankful to have her memories to treasure in writing. I love to read and re-read this book and I take in something new each time as I place myself in her shoes and imagine what it would have been like to live out her adventures. While I am most certainly biased, I can honestly say that this book is a pleasant and enjoyable read. It contains romance, history, and adventure and paints many delightful pictures for the reader. If you are inspired by stories of people who worked hard for everything they had then you will enjoy this book. This book, perhaps, was my great grandmother's attempt at reliving life's journey for herself while inviting others to enjoy the journey with her. I know that I am grateful for the places she took me in her memoirs.
Old Southeast Alaska Life

This story is of an Alaskan pioneer family in Juneau, AK in the early 1900's. Their struggles, life experiences and livelihood -working a dairy farm against the elements of the wilds. It is a fresh and easy book to read for all ages. This book was written by a wife, mother and grandmother with much love for her family. She worked through her native language (German) to write this book in English - going to night classes for many years at the community colleges - in both Juneau and Seattle during her retirement years. She was a very proud and hard working lady!
