Keeper of the Spirit

Tyler is a man haunted by his tragic past. Losing his wife was devastating to him. He is left feeling lonely, sad and lost. Both Tyler and his young daughter try to come to terms with their loss, but it is very difficult. Tyler travels to New York City for a business venture where he meets Edward and his daughter Emma. Tyler discovers that Emma may be more than just his partner's daughter, she may be the one to bring him long awaited happiness. Emma is determined to be on her own, but she is drawn to Tyler. Stubborn and strong willed, Emma does not accept her attraction to Tyler easily. With Tyler being just as stubborn as Emma, a battle of wills ensues. Despite them both, love blooms. Unfortunately, their love and commitment is put to the test when a long time adversary of Emma's threatens their happiness and their lives. I was eager to see what would finally happen in Tyler and Emma's relationship and how the story would end, but overall Keeper of the Spirit is a story riddled with conflicts, misunderstandings, and tragedies. There are two rapes in this book, and one is particularly tragic. I did not find the story to be enjoyable as a result of these depressing scenarios. Although the characters were interesting, the story held too much conflict and tragedy for this reader. Nannette reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

KEEPER OF THE SPIRIT is a must read

KEEPER OF THE SPIRIT is the first of the KEEPER series and they're all beautifully written. I just added a print copy to my own keeper shelf :) KEEPER OF THE SPIRIT is an amazing tale that will leave the reader marveling at the wonders of the human spirit and the inner strength one must find to endure a tragedy. Full of fascinating characters, interesting historical ideals, and tales within the story that had me spellbound while I read. Tyler and Emma's relationship starts out rocky and through tragedies and sheer stubbornness develops into a love that will survive through tragedies that would destroy many marriages. I'm enthralled by Belle and Cole's relationship and find myself wanting to know more. Belle being the proprietor of the Pleasure Palace puts a damper on any kind of permanent relationship with Cole, Tyler's brother, but I could sense an emotional attachment between the two. I'd love to know how that turns out. Ruby Storm writes beautifully and endearingly of characters and events in their lives that help to develop their personalities in a way that you feel like you know each of them personally. This book does contain violent rape scenes but they're such pivotal scenes that touch so many emotions and allow the women's strength of character to show through, as well as the strength and determination of the men who care for them. ***Chrissy Dionne (courtesy of Romance Junkies)
