enjoyable read though elementary

karen is obsessed with "solving mysteries" around her dad's house. She and her brother together solved mysteries about missing glasses, missing cookies, missing books and so forth but after karen, nancy and hannie start a detective agency and her brother is upset he wasn't asked to join, her pet rat disappears and she's worrying so much searching for her all over the place. Also their christmas lights in the front yard keep disappearing and karen solves that mystery too, reading about how she did that was the most exciting part of the book. And when she finds out where her rat was the whole time it's really shocking, read to find out what happened. The activities in the back of the book are great too. There are puzzles about cracking codes and logic puzzles and instructions on how to build magnifying glasses and doing some mysterious science experiments and things like that, finding out the answers are like solving mysteries too.

good book for the holidays

this took place during the christmas season in stoneybrook. David michael and karen are obsessed with solving mysteries until karen faces the biggest mystery of all, where is her pet rat? Has it disappeared? Read to find out the answer to this mystery.

it's a well written book

this was actually the first Baby Sitters Little Sister Super Special I had bought back in the early 90's when I was a young one, and I loved it so much. I wanted to start my own detective agency and solve mysteries, I even got hooked on shows like Unsolved Mysteries as a result. But anyways, the book is well written, and the mood of Christmas is described really well too throughout the book. There are also really cool activities at the back of the book, relating to mysteries. Definitely a recommendation.

Karens Mystery

I 100% do not agrre with the other reviews. If you are like me and LOVE books, than any book is good to read.I read Pony Pals for heaven sakes!Karens Mystery is a good book to read espicially if you are like me and solve mysteries.Karen and her step-brother David Michael solve mysteries. So Karen starts an agency with her friends Nancy and Hannie. But Karen won't let her step-brother jion the Three Musketeers Detective Agency. Then Karens beloved rat Emily Juinor goes missing.Karen,Nancy and Hannie try to find her.In the end it it the person Karen least expected yet the most likely.A great book like all books!

good for younger readers

My second grader loves the Karen books and my fourth grader finds them too young for her, so I think the 9-12 age level in the book description is a bit inaccurate. I would say that they are perfect for girls age 6-8 who are reading on their own. For reading aloud they are a bit tedious. For one thing, the author doesn't use any contractions, so the dialogue sounds stilted when read aloud, but the themes seem to really appeal to young girls. Karen usually gets in trouble somehow, but there is always a good resolution in the end.
