Anything can happen out in Asia

This book is a must read for anyone who has lived out in Asia -- especially as an expat! Turmann is a very descriptive writer, he doesn't forget the details. I was sucked into each scenario as if I was there - yes, a bit of reminiscing. But he also does leave a few things to your imagination until the facts are revealed later in the book. This is what keeps the pages turning. His characters are intriguing, some may even say unique. I think that there are many who can relate to Cortous, his experiences and his drive to make his mark in the world. Some may even be surprised by the things he does. But out in Asia, these things are indeed very very likely to occur.

An intriguing read

This book has its own unique but comfortable style. I loved reading it as it pushes the boundaries in so many different ways. Cortous is a fantastic central character that I couldn't help liking. His supporting cast of characters also left me with a strong appreciation for the human spirit in all its weird and wonderful forms. If you have ever lived or worked in Southeast Asia then you will love this book. If you haven't then it's a great introduction to this part of the world.

A Stellar Asian Tale

A sly and humorous story of a young man who discovers Southeast Asia and finds himself. Turmann captures the exotic settings of this curious region along with its people and history. His characters are rich in intrigue and the writing is chalk full of tantalizing metaphors. A must read for anyone captivated by adventure in foreign lands who appreciate life's many detours, both good and bad.
