Presents a study guide for the new SAT exam, and provides students with practice tests and test-taking strategies. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I'm a sophomore in high school who's getting ready to take the SAT. For prep, I began using some of the "standard" non-2400 books because I thought it would be wise to learn the basics -- I was bored, reading obvious strategies and not learning anything new. So this book, with its "Advanced prep for advanced students" line, caught my attention, and it's turned out to be just what I needed! It's contents consist solely of the hardest math, critical reading, and writing questions possible and the best strategies for cracking these tricky problems. While I haven't taken the SAT yet, I thoroughly believe this book raised my ability and I'll achieve a better score than I would have if I'd not read it. This is a must buy!

I am a homeschool mom with 6 children. Three of my six children have used this resource to prepare for the SAT. I am proud to say they have all achieved acceptable scores to enter both private and public ivy league schools.
No tests, but the best strategy book (Barron's 2400 is close, though)

This is an abridged review from CEEAE dot org: Highly recommended strategy book. No practice tests, but excellent strategies presented in an easy to digest format. This is a pure strategy book, like Barron's SAT 2400, and it lacks practice tests. If you want one book for SAT prep, this is not going to cut it since it lacks practice tests. One possible solution would be to pair this book with either The Official SAT Study Guide or Princeton Review's 11 Practice Tests for the SAT and PSAT, 2007. The Official SAT Study Guide contains 8 tests, from the people who make the test, but they lack explanations. Princeton Review's book has explanations and the Equating sections, but the tests are not made by the test makers. However, it provides some of the best strategies available. If you want to know what the top tutors know, this is likely the book for you. Admittedly, Barron's SAT 2400 probably covers all of the same strategies, but when the tutors at CEEAE covered this book they all remarked at one time or another: "I thought I was the only one who knew this". The strategies in every subject area were accurate and effective. Further, the presentation was more concise and more effective than Barron's SAT 2400.
SO Much Better Than the 2005 Edition!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
After I read the reviews about the 2005 edition, I was a little wary about the 2006. However, I decided to give it a try and am very glad I did! The main issue in the 2005 was the amount of errors in the math section, but it is a lot better this year. I have yet to find one and I am about 3/4 of the way through. The math section seems very scary, but remember they're reviewing the most difficult questions. Don't get discouraged! I think the best part of the book is the essay section. The College Board grades essays on a scale of 1-6, and so this book gives you an example of the average score 4. It goes through the 4 essay and gives you specific ways to raise that grade. It then gives you an example of a six. There are also numerous pratice questions. Overall, I only have one problem with the book and that is the lack of practice tests. Though it does have review practice at the end of each section, it doesn't have a full length test. If you are going for the perfect 2400, I recommend this book and a book of just practice tests. Good Luck!
