I read the series in Mandarin Chinese as a child, more than a few times, too. Now I am simply stunned the books are not in print in English. The stories are wonderful for their own sake but they also teach kids the values of independent thinking, creativity, comradery, and the pursuit of truth.
It's unbelievable and truly sad that this book is not in print in English!

Bill Bergson (Kalle Blomquist)was one of my favourite books as a child. Being an Austrian I was shocked when I just realized that I can't order this book for relatives in the US., simply because it's not in print. The German translation is available and a big success! It's a great classic in children's literature, gripping, funny, with realistic characters. This book is more than worthy of a reprint!
It's a crime!!

It's a crime that this book is not in print! I know that children today would love it as much as I did when I was ten years old (or so), when I read and reread this well-written tale again and again. Lindgren's romantic saga is of Bill Bergson, a more-or-less ordinary Swedish boy with an extraordinary fascination for detective work. He identifies clues, investigates enigmas, and solves the riddle surrounding a mysterious stranger while the police and other adults overlook or dismiss the whole matter. (The fools!) Drafty castles, tire tracks in the dust, boyhood rivalries, curious crimes, the War of the Roses, the intriguing Eva-Lotta, and Bill's well-used notebook all make this book well worth finding.
wish it was back in print

I read this book several times as a child, unable to put it down each reading. Bill is a young man in Sweden who fancies himself a Sherlock Holmes. With his friends Anders and, if I recall correctly, Eva, he soon finds real mystery and crime, culminating with the friends being trapped in the dungeon of a ruined castle. This is a book that deserves to be back in print.
