A New Essential Text

Gullo orchestrates a text from some famous early childhood experts (Mary Jalongo, Laura Berk, Carol Copple, Dorothy Strickland, Sharon Kagan) which serves as a mini-guide for the 21st century kindergarten. All the articles meet a need for just about any teacher or teacher educator at a university or vocational school. There are sections that cover curriculum & teaching, foundations & history, policy, and assessment. It's excellent. My favorite section, though, is the first chapter (by Graue) which immediately informs the reader that we no longer live in our grandmother's kindergarten. Today's K is a monster of a different form. Cold and academic rather than warm and holistically nurturing? Those are some of the questions that she tackles. She will raise some eyebrows. Every educator should put this on their essential shelf as THE kindergarten book to get...and it's really inexpensive:)
