This short book is a commmentary on travel. Each chapter focuses on a particular city and includes famous quotes, typical recipes, and essays. The introductory chapter, "The Grand Tour" is especially thoughtful in encouraging travel as a way of becomming a well rounded person. The smallness lends itself to coffee tables, offices, waiting rooms, the "white throne" or other places in which people might enjoy a short chapter to read. My only criticism is the choice of people identified with the city. For example, the authors quote Chaucer for Florence. While there is a connection (who knew?) there might be other choices with a more direct association.
