I've got both of Ann's books (Just 'Till I Finish This Chapter and Tips and Tricks For Homeschooling Survival) and can highly recommend both. Ann's books are easy to understand and they're FULL of useful and useable suggestions. They're clearly written by someone who's "been there". I'm a therapist in private practice and have many clients who are home schooled. I've loaned her books out several times but have found that I have to fight to get them back! I can highly recommend Ann's books, they ought to be required reading for anyone who is thinking about home schooling their children!
In school again myself....

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I found it to be insightful and informative. My step-daughter has struggled with reading and comprehension to the point of her great frustration. I have applied some of the techniques Ann speaks of and have found them to be most successful. Some tips are actually simple, yet I would not have thought of them on my own. I appreciate the "Try-it" charts at the end of each chapter. Sometimes even adult readers need check lists. This book will not take much of your time to read but, in that short time it will give you great insight into helping your little ones. I have passed this book along to a teacher friend and recommended it to many.

I bought this book for my daughter, hoping it would help her with her little one, who was struggling in school. And it did! It has wonderful suggestions, is easy to read and follow, is fun, and should be a must-read for all parents of school-age children. I highly recommend it!
Great methods for keeping kids interested in reading

This book should be required reading for teachers as well as parents. Two years ago, my youngest child had a terrible experience in kindergarten, where his teachers managed to completely beat down his budding interest in books and reading. Had they read this book (or if I had before witnessing some of the "teaching methods" that went on in my son's class), the whole thing might not have happened. In contrast to other reading books, this one focuses on ways to encourage kids' interest in reading rather than the mechanics of translating letters into thoughts. The big one for me was the philosophy that learning to read is a process, not something that your child has to do perfectly every time they read a sentence. If my son's teachers had understood that point a little better, they wouldn't have nit-picked the joy of reading right out of him. There are lots of good topics and a great "big picture" philosophy behind this book - it's a definite must-have for any parent that wants to raise an avid reader!
