Book Overview

Glen Stassen believes Christians should direct their energies toward finding a set of criteria and a model for a "just peace" instead of "just war." He bases his just peace theory on the new reality of our world, on recent biblical interpretation, and on the experiences of people who lived in the face of oppression and nuclear threat, and who--together with political scientists, Christian ethicists, and activists--fashioned realistic steps toward...

Peacemaking with purpose and effectiveness

I originally encountered this book while writing a paper for a Seminary class. It served as my first contact with Glen Stassen's work, and it changed my views on peacemaking forever. This book will lead you to positive actions for peacemaking, a wonderful alternative to the more passive approaches to peace that are often proposed in our world. Every library should have a copy, along with other offerings by Glen Stassen. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

A Beautiful Insight and History

Glen Stassen's Just Peacemaking does a great job of introducing you to the peacemaking movement and idealogy. Through first hand experience and research Glen gives us the history of this important social movement. While it can at times be a little academic it is definitely worth picking up and reading.

A must read

This book is a must read for those troubled by the current situation in the middle east. The root causes of terrorism are examined. Preventative measures are discussed. This is a book of action in utlizing democratic and political practices to promote conflict resolution.

The art of conflict resolution

A collection of some of the finest minds in the nation. Glen Stassen assembles the thoughts of giant scholars from New York, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Kansas and California and provides a crisp guide for abolishing war. This is a noble book. It provides practical steps to stop war theory and implement a just and enduring peace. I found chapter six, "Foster Just and Sustainable Economic Development," a superb piece of workmanship. In a perfect world, this book would be required reading for every member of Congress.

Required Reading for every President

This should be on the coffee table, magazine rack, bookshelf, and waiting room of every serious national leader. Conscientious voters should also read this in order to understand what it takes to make political peace in the world. But Stassen is not merely political, he's actually biblical first of all. He exegetes like a biblical scholar while making applications which only a leading Christian ethicist like he could. Just peacemaking shows that "just war theory" can lead to peace while restraining war, and that passifism is an extremely ACTIVE practice. EXCELLENT!
