Just Desserts

Marilyn Mason O'Malley is the new editor for a small publishing company, Birmingham and O'Malley Press, and she has her work cut out for her with one of her author's, Jack Delacroix. Mr. Delacroix is a best selling cookbook author, but for some reason he just won't agree to any promotional events. Marilyn has been fantasizing about him since she saw his picture on the back of his last cookbook. He just crossed the line by not only refusing to do a celebrity cook-off for his main sponsor, but he just hung up on her too. She has a way to fix that situation and to have him fulfill the contract obligations. Jack Delacroix has all the charm and arrogance of his Cajun/Creole background. For all the cookbooks he has written, Jack has a secret that he is trying to keep hidden. He writes family recipes but he can't cook. To keep this secret he has refused any promotional ideas that might have him cooking or even talking about it. Jack realizes that he has made his new editor mad but even he has no idea what is about to land on his doorstep. Marilyn has pulled strings to have the cook off moved to Jack's home--a fishing camp in Oklahoma--all without him being aware of it. She is on the way to let him know when she discovers his secret. Now to save not only her job, but Jack's reputation and career, Marilyn tries to come up with ways to make it though the contest. Jack on the other hand while mad at what was arranged behind his back, is attracted to Marilyn and decides that dessert is the best way to start a meal; he knows the perfect recipe for this. Just Desserts is an extremely funny and light-hearted story that kept me in giggles and hot at the same time. Both Jack and Marilyn are strong-willed people, but they have a well-balanced look at life that includes being able to roll with the punches and most importantly, to be able to laugh at themselves. The kitchen is not the only thing that gets hot when these two work together to keep Jack's secret. A plus to any cooks out there is that each chapter begins with a recipe, which I fully intend to try. Just Desserts is a story that I fully recommend. Jo reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed
