Ouch!

I like Julie Cannon's books. She always presents beautiful and interesting characters with engaging storylines. `Just Business' is no exception. Unexpectedly thrown into an awkward situation, Dillon Matthews goes with the flow and ends up with a broken heart. Dillon meets a depressed Callie Sheffield at a local bar one night and they feel a connection. Later, Dillon is invited to have dinner with Bill Franklin, a man who is holding out on a land deal she wants to close, and his wife Phyllis. She is specifically asked to bring a date and decides to invite Callie. Thinking the meal will be all that's required, Dillon is stunned when she and Callie are invited to spend a weekend with Bill and Phyllis at their beach cottage. Things only get more complicated from there as Dillon gets more deeply mired in the whole situation. She hasn't been completely honest with Callie and won't admit she's fallen in love with the unsuspecting woman - that is, until it's too late. Callie discovers Dillon's ruse and that's where the fun really begins. Okay, these characters aren't terribly multi-dimensional. Dillon's only focus is the land. Callie's only focus is getting her brother out of prison. Bill and Phyllis seen to open their arms too quickly to these women. However, their interactions make this book enjoyable. It's not as good as Cannon's earlier books, but I'm still glad I read it. Bottom Line - Well worth reading.

Taking Care of Business

The author of Just Business certainly took care of business. She "fleshed" out both characters thoroughly and made them interesting and sexy. I liked the fact that Dillon and Callie were mature women both with interesting separate lives, which the author brought to light without taking away from their budding relationship. And the turn-about in the middle of the book gave the plot a shot in the arm to keep it exciting. And let's not forget- there was a good dose of intimacy. I like when a book gives the reader some "spice" before the last page (makes for a better page turner). For me, it was definitely worth the read!

Back on track....

I just finished Ms. Cannon's latest and what a wonderful book. Since I was a bit disappointed in her last one (just didn't really have a plot going for it and characters were a bit 2 dimensional), I was reluctant to get her latest, but I am very glad I did. In this newest one, Ms. Cannon brought the two main characters to life; each having sub-characters that only made the main ones more robust. There just seem to be more to the characters stories this time with more depth to the characters and more substance to the story plot...I look forward to her next one.
