I live in Wyoming and am a student of the Mormon Trail. I have visited many Mormon Trail sites in Wyoming that are accesible to the public and a few that are not (with permission!). Not knowing that this book is at least 3 inches thick, I bought it and have been pleasantly surprised at how comprehensive it is. I can hardly believe the author has pulled this off, putting so much together and in one place. Mormon Pioneers endured many struggles in their journeys, as did many others not of the Mormon faith. Reading these journals is highly emotional and a journey of its own. These people were amazing and commonplace all at once. Their vision, sacrifice, losses and hopes have changed my life forever. Although reading the journals of Mormon pioneers is wonderful, it is recommended to read other works the put the journal entries in their historical place. "Trail of Hope" is a work that could be read before this book, so that the reader has a clear, historical perspective that augments this read with an understand of the movement itself. Highly recommended and I appreciate what the author has done here.
