A beautiful work that befits a beautiful part of the world.

The book is short. Not much more than 124 pages. But it is chock full of exquisite photo's (about 200 photos approx)that capture the regions natural beauty through the various seasons as well as the man made contribution (farms, villages, cultural events, crafts, beautiful examples of regional architecture, people at work or play). The photography is so truly beautiful - some images are double paged (village scenes or landscape) or several shots per page (eg# showing people making wine etc)The photo's are very carefully chosen for their quality and the use of lighting/subject/atmosphere they create is very discernable in virtually every shot. From landscape shots that conjure memories of the Sound of Music to that of a bog/moor with its tall golden grasses, black inky still waters and forest backdrop taken late in the day. Or a shot of people selling produce in a local village market. They capture the atmosphere and mood of the region exquistely. There is concise and informative text detailing the regions history, festivals. crafts (cuckoo clocks/wood carving), how the valley and region formed geologically, what joys await the hiker, botany, geography, the products (wine) etc etc. This is compliments everything you see photographically even if it only takes up 10 pages. Each photo has a little description so the reader knows what the place/object/event/going on that is being depicted. And the map at the back is useful too with all places of population/rivers/mountain-hill tops/or places of interest to hikers marked. All in all. A lovely book. So lovely and charming it makes you want to travel there in person and experience the culture and scenery that is the Black Forest for yourself.
