Sharpen up your acting and vocal skills. This is the best book ever to read to your child. A plethora of seedy-but-kind pirates, an engaging plot, and eye-catching drawings (the speech balloons demand voicing) : they all add up to a wonderful way to entertain the munchkin or three. It's a longish story, so plan to spend some time opening up yourself. You'll enjoy the experience as much as your tyke.

Great for the Kid In All Of Us

Colin McNaughton's charming tale of Jolly Roger running off to join the pirates to get away from his mother is perhaps more for the pleasure of adults than the very young reader. However, the tale is pleasurable for all ages... Instead of straight story with pictures, the pictures tell a lot of the story themselves, with the characters' dialogues bubbling out of their mouths and spilling across the pages. This gives each pirate and each character a really distinct personality, and brings the reader from the "the pirates did this, Roger did that, his mother did this" to a more character oriented book. The jokes may be a bit above the very young reader, but most children will understand and be entertained and adults reading the books may have to go back and enjoy it for themselves once the kids are tucked in bed!I ran across the book as a nanny to two little girls and bought a copy to keep for myself. I was ready to join a pirate ship myself after reading it! Enjoy!

hellooo

(i'm spanish so is difficult to express in words my full excitement)I readed it 5 days ago, this Colin is a Genius drawing..lots of laughts with the pirates (motorist-like sometimes) modern-humour jokes as: 'censored'in a speech baloon, or the face and look of one pirate asking: 'what's a comb?(i couldn't continue for some minutes with these ones),also i learned(costed me MUCH to 'traduce') all the geordie style & jargon(i think is geordie style, no?)to live where i am now (top of england)one of my best-favourites(if not my best)

My Favorite Book When I Was A Youngster

I had forgotten all about this book until I saw it listed here. I dug through all my old stuff in the basement, finally found it, and sat down, right there on the cold concrete floor of the basement, and read, right through. This book brought back a lot of memories. This was my favorite book when I was a youngster. Its still a fun read. Get it for yourself or your kids and you'll have fun time.
