John Fleming was born about 1740 in Tidewater Virginia, likely in Westmoreland County. His parents were William Fleming, Sr. and Abigail Smith. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Fleming and Sarah Cannaday/Kennedy. John Fleming had 5 children with Betsey Ford before she died about 1775. John married Jane Hord, and they had 7 children, all in Surry County, North Carolina. We have provided as accurate information as possible on the who, when, and where of a family that, beginning with John Fleming, stretched into hundreds of Flemings and descendants, even through only the first 3 generations.
