Jezebel was a very good contemporary Christian story that parallels the story of Jezebel in the Bible. The main character in the book is Jessie Bell, a girl from a small town in Georgia. Jessie Bell is desperate to leave her small town and a visiting young minister is her way out. She marries the young minister and has dreams of him becoming a big minister of a mega church. Jessie Bell has big dreams and will stop at nothing to get what she wants no matter who she hurts or has to manipulate in the process. The book was entertaining, you never knew what Jessie Bell was going to do next and just when you thought she had learned her lesson, she would do something else. I like that this book was classified as Christian Fiction and it really was, many books say that they're Christian Fiction and they're full of sex, violence, and cussing. I could share this book with other Christian readers and not be embarrassed. I will definitely read more books by Jacquelin Thomas.

Modern Day Recollection of the Spirit of Jezebel

Jesse Belle Holt, the girl from small-time Mayville, Georgia finds her way out the boondocks through her marriage to Treynor Deveraus, a kind and loving but naïve pastor who has the potential for greatness. Jessie Bell is a cunning young girl who learned early in life how to use her feminine wiles to get whatever she wants. A pastor's daughter, she watched her mother use the same tactics as a child. Despite her reputation, Treynor is taken by her at first sight and will not listen to the warnings by those in her hometown who know her well. When Traynor sets his sights on Jesse Belle while preaching a revival in his hometown, he forgets to consult the Lord, his flesh speaks out to him and he marries his young wife believing that she is the one that the Lord has sent to be his wife. He has no idea what is ahead of him. Jesse Belle is driven by greed, power and her love of material possessions. She is a woman full of discontent. She is never satisfied. Treynor is just her meal ticket to a plush and lush lifestyle that she had dreamed of all of her life. The Pastor's Wife with a demon seed, Jesse Belle does whatever she has to do to convince Treynor to aspire to a higher goal, one elevation after another. Treynor, wanting to please his wife, continuously forgets to consult God and continues to satisfy Jesse Bell. He has never felt like this with any other woman his entire life. He has been overwhelmed by her seductive spirit, her powerful nature and before he knows it, their life has spiraled out of control. Jesse Belle lies, manipulates and betrays Treynor until he finally becomes uncomfortable in his marriage. He realizes that he can no longer trust his wife and he is afraid of uncovering more of her dirty deeds and schemes that keep her evil world afloat. Prostitution, murder, drugs, and the secrets that bind her to her sinful ways continue until Jesse Belle's past is uncovered and a tragic turn of events cause her to pay a huge price for her sins. Struggling for her only chance at redemption and seeking forgiveness from her family and friends, Jesse Belle finds that God's grace is sufficient and in the end, she repents and allows the Lord to deliver her. However, she pays dearly for her transgressions. This is a very powerful story about a woman who was cursed with the spirit of Jezebel in modern times. The author uses this woman's story to encourage all of us to stay prayed up and look to the Lord for a discerning spirit in our lives. Thomas developed a remarkable character in Jesse Belle. I was very impressed in how she portrayed Jesse Belle in her early years as a country girl with no class and no style. The author stepped out of her box with this character. Jesse Belle is so unlike any of the other women in Thomas' previous books. As the story evolved, the author developed the character of Jesse Belle from a caterpillar to a butterfly. Christian women from all walks of life will enjoy this novel. It is one of Jacqu

Sight Ain't Seeing

Jezebel is the name often spoken in hushed tones, behind closed doors and flung at women who are considered `loose'. The story opens by introducing us to Jessie Belle, a woman who is no stranger to the aforementioned whispers and derogatory remarks. With her reputation already sullied in the tiny town of Mayville, her options for escape are narrowing. The margin for departure enlarges when Traynor Deveraux fills in for his father at the annual revival hosted by Jessie Belle's father. Overcome by Jessie Belle's feminine whiles Traynor marries her and takes her away to the life she always dreamed of. Well, not really. Jessie Belle lives up to the name of her biblical mirror image as she controls, manipulates and destroys many of the lives around her for personal gain. Throughout the pages of this rich story you will see how easily intelligent God-fearing persons such as her husband can walk into catastrophe with open, yet unseeing eyes. The well developed characters and plot will keep you turning page after page in search of answers to raised questions. Without fail you are left with the knowledge that in spite of your failings, God is a forgiving God who accepts our wholehearted repentance. Reviewer/Dr. Linda F. Beed On Assignment Reviews

Another winner by Jacquelin Thomas

Jacquelin Thomas continues to prove why she's a pioneer in Christian fiction. Jezebel was a wonderful story of seduction-and-manipulation and love-and-redemption. In Jessie Belle Holt, Thomas has created a complex character that you both love and hate. You love the fight in her, but you hate that nothing is ever enough or good enough for her. Since she always wants more, Jessie Belle never allows herself to enjoy and appreciate what she has--an adoring husband, and later, a loving son. Traynor Deveraux, Jessie Belle's husband, is a multi-faceted character as well. On the surface he's the "good guy" being led astray by a manipulative wife, while underneath he gives Jessie Belle room and reign to wreck the havoc that brings her (and him) greater riches. When he points the finger at her, unfortunately, that finger points right back at him. A recurring theme in Thomas' books is that no matter how close to edge of utter loss and depravity we get, God is always there is pull us back to safety. She does this beautifully in Jezebel. By not being afraid to show us the ugliness in our lives, Thomas is able to show in a miraculous way the grace and love of God. Jezebel is must read.
