The Meaning of Christ

I'd give this book six stars if I could! It's very accessible, and yet it is so much more than just a simple retelling of the gospels. Soelle and Schottroff tell the story of Jesus in a way that shows what he means to the life of the world. They provide cultural background and context to show how Jesus' proclamation of the kingdom of God would have been good news to the poor and oppressed in first century Palestine. Conservative Christians might be put off by the down-to-earth focus, but if you don't get hung up on that this book is sure to inspire you and give you a fresh appreciation of the Gospel.
