Become a part of something more than just ho-hum....

I've loved reading Joe Stowell's books for a long, long time. He is by far one of my favorite non-fiction authors, and his most recent release doesn't disappoint. Is your faith feeling a bit hum-drum? Do you go to bed at night wondering "Isn't there more to life than this?" Are you so busy keeping your spiritual checklist that you don't have time for much else? Then welcome to "Jesus Nation", where Jesus reigns supreme and we join in praising, supporting, and working solely for Him! Joe Stowell paints a vivid portrait of the major missing part of faith in believers today, and he made me long for that more abundant that we're promised. He kicks things off with a powerful word picture--he's a huge fan of the Cubs. Whether they win or lose, they score or don't, no matter where he goes...he remains a true-blue fan. Proudly wearing their colors, he holds for them even in enemy territory. He's part of something called "Cubs Nation"...a love that unites and doesn't divide, that brings comraderie among the most unlikely of people, and that holds even when things look bleakest. That, my friends, is "Jesus Nation". A faith and love that unites us, brings friendship and fellowship across all boundaries, and holds true even when things look bleak. But it isn't a watered-down faith. Joe Stowell teaches sound doctrine as he encourages us to look beyond our denomination, our ethnicity, our political bent, our age....to be united as one under the One who conquered death, hell, the grave and fear of anything. He goes on to use more excellent word pictures to make his very appealing case for living for this "Jesus Nation." My faith had most definitely grown into a list of do's and do not's, with a little hallelujah tossed in for good measure. But as I approach my fifth decade of life on this planet, I want all of these years to count for something. I want to make a difference in any way I am able (one major reason why I still review). I want to live above the hum-drum in the hallelujah zone of life. I'm praying that I will always remember I live in "Jesus Nation".

Jesus Nation

It was a wonderful and encouraging book by Dr. Stowell on our walk with God. I recommend it highly. Waldo E. Yeager

A fine Christian exploration of the belonging all humanity yearns for

Above country, there is God. "Jesus Nation: Belonging to and Becoming Part of the Greatest Nation Ever" is a Christian inspiration book that seeks to remind Christians everywhere that they are a part of something greater than all of themselves and their politics, the nation of Christ. Hoping to inspire those lost in the world to look to the Jesus Nation for the spiritual support they need, "Jesus Nation" is a fine Christian exploration of the belonging all humanity yearns for.

Great Book (Even if you're not a sports fan!)

This has been my first encounter with Joe Stowell and I am extremely pleased with what I have read. I learned quite a bit from this book and that surprised me. I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I sat to read and I can honestly say, now that I am finished, that I am glad I invested time into the reading of this book. Why? Dr. Joseph Stowell is downright honest in his book, Jesus Nation. He does not pull any punches and he states the facts quite clearly. With his vivid use of illustrations and everyday language he gets his message across and it is a powerful message. I found this book to be both thought provoking and interesting. The message in this book has changed the way I view some things and it has also left me with one thought- What's my nation? This book is a great read for everyone. I don't particularly like sports, but caught the spirit of this book regardless and enjoyed the read.

Jesus Nation

Are you a sports fan by chance? Say a member of the CUB NATION? Personally I choose to side with the TIGER NATION! Author Joe Stowell is of the Cubs nation. A die hard, will always root for you no matter how long your losing stretch is. Joe Stowell's latest book is entitled the JESUS NATION the basic concept of this book is that when you are a CUB NATION member your race, occupation, upbringing, financial status etc.. do not mean a thing. You all are in the same boat and will gladly root for a common cause. In one voice crying out for victory at the games; or in unison watching a game and cheering as your team goes for another loss (as is the case for the Cubs too often). The concept is simple: If we as Christians were to view this as a TEAM, a JESUS NATION, would we spend so much time fighting and separating on little things. Would Music styles be such a major separation? Would we not unite on the front of bring more people into our JESUS NATION? What if the churches in your town were all to come together to help the poor, the orphan and the Widow? Would it make an impact? Would there be a difference? The book is written in 4 parts. Part 1: Bewildered: Understanding Our Dilemma Part 2: Belonging to His Nation: Life with Jesus the King Part 3: Behaving Jesusly: Identity, Direction, and Confidence Part 4: Becoming True Jesus Nationals: Generosity, Grace, and Glory This book did a great job of breaking down what it would look like if we were to live as a Jesus Nation; The way it would look, the way we should act, and the issues that can stop us from living this way such as selfish acts or building barns instead of giving generously. I would definitely recommend this book (Even though the author is a Cub Fan). Pick it up at your local Family Christian Stores.
