This is one of the most creative, compassionate books I have ever read

This book is characterized by insight, compassion and extrordinary understanding of human nature and of our relationship to the sacred. This is, without doubt, one of the best books I have ever read. I paid $120.00 for my hardback copy and I consider that a marveslous bargain.
A quirky treasure

I'm delighted to see this back in print. I read it decades ago, as a teen, and it has stuck with me ever since. If you're intrigued by the Man from Galilee and what he stands for, but not too reverent about it, this will fascinate you. Pair it with Romulus Linney's Jesus Tales for double duty.
A brilliant exploration into Jesus with human faults/doubts

For many of us, Jesus is unobtainable. As a spiritual but not traditionally religious person, this book represents a way to see Jesus as a person who tries and fails, much as we all do. Langguth uses a sentence, a paragraph or a chapter to convey great meaning or a great message from a very human Jesus, and he leaves us with more questions. Jesus' inability to completely and satisfactorily answer his follower's questions and ultimately our own inability to find complete comfort in religion is the reason this book worked so well for me. Plus, let's not rule out the subtle humor in the book. When replying to a man that he has come to die for his sins, the man asks Jesus what am I to die for. Jesus asks for the man's name and address to reply later. That starts the book and I might say is the theme. Obviously I am not a professional book reviewer but I play one on-line.
Brilliant book, if you can find it

This is one of the greatest books I've ever read. Screw Normal Mailer, if your reading a revisionist Jesus text, this is the one
