The essence of the Eucharist

If you read only one book on the Eucharist, it should be this one. One comes to understand the essence of Eucharist as action--a memorial celebration of thanksgiving--rather than an object of worship. How sad that both 1st and 2nd editions are out of print. Grab a used copy if you can.

Best book I've read on this subject

My first exposure to Tad Guzie was in high school theology class; he is still a favorite after many years. For anyone interested in getting to the bottom of the origins of the communion rite, how it evolved, how it has often been misinterpreted, and how it can have meaning for a modern Catholic, this is the book to read. It may be tough to locate a copy, but it is worth the effort. As Andrew Greely states in his one sentence review: "Simply the best book there is on this subject."
